Custom Group Tours on the KATY Trail

We do the hard parts, you enjoy the ride

If you have a club, company, or group of friends that is interested in doing a unique bicycle tour on the KATY Trail, come to The Touring Cyclist. We conduct numerous custom tours on the trail each year with great success. For each tour we consult closely with the participants to find out what they want to see and do: riding distance, any particular sites they want to visit, types of accommodation and food, time frame and budget. Then we combine our many years of expertise in running bicycle tours with our in-depth knowledge of the KATY Trail to create just the right tour package. We book all the reservations, arrange the transportation to the tour start, and provide support throughout the tour. All that’s left for the group members to do is show up and enjoy the ride.

An example

One particularly memorable custom tour in 2009 was a five-day KATY Trail tour we provided for employees of a large St. Louis based company. The ride was based on our normal Clinton-to-St. Charles itinerary, with several changes. The tour was shortened to five days to accommodate the group members’ work schedules. The itinerary was adjusted to visit particular spots the group wanted to see and stop at restaurants they wanted to sample. Highlights of the trip included a marvelous catered meal served in an art gallery in downtown Jefferson City, and much fine wine consumed each evening after the riding was done.

We provided all of our usual support for this tour. We talked at length with the group members to find out what sort of ride they wanted. After agreeing on an itinerary, we negotiated with the selected hotels and other services, and handled all the necessary reservations. We transported the riders from St. Louis to the tour start, carried all their luggage each day, and shuttled the riders to the hotels when necessary. We provided full sag and mechanical support, met the riders on the trail with water and snacks, and provided detailed maps and advise about attractions and good places to eat. When the group decided to alter the itinerary during the tour, we worked with them to make those changes happen smoothly.

This was a challenging tour. The daily mileage was higher than usual because of the reduced number of days, but the riders were prepared and handled the distances just fine. The tour was late in the season and the riders ran into tough weather a couple of days, but frequent refueling at sag wagon snack stops helped them easily overcome this challenge too. The bonding and feeling of accomplishment they had by the end of the tour was tremendous, and they are already planning to make bicycle tours an annual company event.
